Love, Too

And the flowers, her wet scent, lupines,

their seeds a thousand years old blooming after snow,

and sweet arnica, saxifrage, and anemones, her hair tumbling.

Yes, and the creek rising from the rocks, the glacier in retreat.

And the ptarmigan too, changed, the white fading as the last snow.

You dunk your mouth in water and drink the mountain

in your dark becoming. A broken sky and want, light almost gone,

the meteors born out of what blood, falling upon your eyes; the woman

who rises in the dark, her hair tumbling, and does not return.
